Another try at the MoH interface. Just a personal exercise after having played through the game a couple of times.
I broke down what the real interface designer had come up with. I kept the health cross but quadrupled them for each hit the player can take. Damage is displayed with empty crosses. Instead of a weapons silhouette, I instead went with simply displaying the name of the weapon to save interface space. I assume that most players know World War 2 era weapons by name as opposed to their physical appearance, especially when it comes to foreign weaponry like the Italian arsenal. Additionally, the ammo and grenade icons are more visual with the use of icons and their respective counters. All text has a solid drop shadow behind them to stand out against light backgrounds should the need arise.
The compass is less detailed than the actual in-game version and thusly less distracting. It's transparent too so it doesn't get in the way too much.
All the interface elements are kept in the same general area. I don't see the point of spreading things out like the actual game did - the player needs information fast and cant waste time looking to the four corners of the screen for it.
The Garamond font is a good strong font and keeps with the tradition of the MoH series.
What I was responsible for in this project:
Overall design mockup and icon creation in Photoshop. This is NOT an actual ingame interface, just a comp. |
